It would seem that women lack the confidence to discuss stocks and shares with Bristol investment advisers and others, with new research revealing that one in three feel unable to talk about the stock market and investments (investments).
This is despite the fact that 60 per cent of women are in control of their domestic finances, with the Share Centre study finding that this percentage take the lead when it comes to ISA investing. This is in contrast to the 28 per cent who rely on their partner or husband to do it, or the 12 per cent who make investment decisions together.
It was seen that just 27 per cent of women feel happy discussing the stock market, with 30 per cent admitting they wouldn’t know where to start. However, 43 per cent did say they felt they knew enough in order to get their point across.
Chief executive of The Share Centre Richard Stone said: “It is heartening to learn that 60 per cent of women take the lead with their ISA investments, with 12 per cent involved in joint decision-making with their partners. Taking the upper hand, 25 per cent of the women surveyed stated that they deal on behalf of their male relative or partner.”
